Cal and I are excited to be honorary Squad Leaders this year! Are you looking for an opportunity to amplify your support?
Whether you complete your Carry Forward Virtual 5K solo or with friends at a local park or your neighborhood, when you join our virtual Squad, your participation will symbolize the importance of camaraderie and highlight the impact we can achieve when we know others are on this journey with us. Our story is just one example from the thousands of warriors and families helped by Wounded Warrior Project (WWP); every step you take during your Carry Forward Virtual 5K helps WWP continue to provide critical programs and services to warriors like me.
My name is Phil Krabbe, and this is my K9 companion, Cal. Following 9/11, I felt compelled to join the United States Marine Corps, where I faithfully served my country through three back-to-back tours overseas. I loved the Marines, and the best part was the camaraderie and the deep bonds we built with one another. This was also the most challenging part, though; when I returned home, I felt alone, and post-traumatic stress and survivor's guilt led me to turn to bad habits, which took a toll on myself and my marriage.
It wasn't until a friend invited me to a multi-day event with Wounded Warrior Project that began a major turning point in my life. I was introduced to many veterans who were going through the same things. Because of WWP, I found the community and camaraderie I had lost following service, which meant everything to me.
This helped me feel motivated to continue my journey, when I got introduced to Warrior Care Network®* and WWP Benefits Team**. These programs allowed me to truly find the tools and stability that helped me regain my life. I began building stronger relationships with friends and family and my support system continued to expand when I got my service dog, Cal, who plays a huge role. He constantly provides me with the emotional stability and comfort that enables me to navigate daily challenges. With the confidence I have now, I'm able to engage in my community, pursue my passions, and be a productive member of society.
WWP programs and services wouldn't be possible without supporters like you. Cal and I are excited to participate in the Carry Forward Virtual 5K as an honorary Squad Leader. Will you help us reach the Top Squad spot for 2025?
Join our Squad as you complete your Virtual 5K and help make a difference in the lives of warriors and their families!
