How do I join a squad?
There are two ways: Start your own squad and recruit your family, friends, and co-workers. Or, you can join an existing squad by selecting “Join a squad” on the registration form and searching for the squad you want to join.

How do I volunteer?
This, by far, is our favorite question ever! You are our favorite person right now. Fill out the contact us form.

What do I receive with my registration?
All registered participants will receive a race bib, Wounded Warrior Project small flag, and finisher medal.

How do I get a t-shirt?
Fundraise $100 and received a Carry Forward atheltic fit t-shirt.

What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes — anything you are comfortable getting sweaty in. We recommend weight gloves or garden gloves to prevent blisters if you plan to carry a flag or weights. Check the weather, and if it looks stormy, we recommend you dress in layers to keep warm or easily remove top layers to cool off.

Is Carry Forward ADA accessible?
Yes. Warriors with special needs will be attending each Carry Forward event, so we’ve scouted only ADA accessible locations. Please email carryforward@woundedwarriorproject.org for any special requests.

Is there a fee for spectators?
There is never a charge for cheering crowds, only admiration.

How do you decide which cities to host Carry Forward?
Our vision is to grow a strong community of champions for wounded warriors all over the country. We’re starting in three cities in 2018: San Diego, Nashville, and Jacksonville. We will add more communities in the spring of 2019. Stay tuned for announcements coming later this year.

Until we come to your community, please join this powerful movement by registering for the Virtual 5K Run/Walk. Choose your own route and run/walk it on your own timeline, no later than Veterans Day. Create a fundraising page to encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to join you in supporting wounded warriors.

Will I get to run/walk with my squad?
Yes, all squads are encouraged to start and finish together.

Squad (Team) FAQs

How do I register as part of a squad (team)?
In Step 3 of the registration process, select “Join a squad” or “Create a squad.” If you choose “Join” you’ll get a search box to find the squad you want to join. If you select “Create” you’ll get to name your squad to create it.

Does my entire squad run or walk in the same wave?
Yes, all squads are encouraged to start and finish together.

For the FIERCE challenge, are there any restrictions on how to carry a squad member?
FIERCE is the ultimate squad-only challenge that will test your grit by committing to carry each other for the full length of the 5K. This represents warriors helping one another when injured on the battlefield — a reality for many of our warriors and a true representation of the WWP logo.

Want to get creative? We do allow squad members to be carried on a litter, however, wheelbarrows, carts, sleds, etc. are strictly prohibited.

Is there a fundraising minimum for my squad?
You’re not required to fundraise, but here are two good reasons to fundraise (or at least make a personal donation): 1. Your donations make sure that wounded warriors never pay a penny for mental health services, career counseling, and long-term rehabilitative care. 2. Your squad qualifies for special fundraising rewards. Rewards to be revealed soon.

How can I see my squad roster?
Visit your Squad Page on your fundraising dashboard to see who is on your squad and how much they’ve raised.

How is a squad (team) page different from my squad’s personal fundraising pages?
Your team page allows supporters to donate to your squad, which is super helpful for family squads. (Supporters can see your squad name, squad fundraising goal, squad information, and entire squad roster.) Donations to the squad page are counted toward your squad goal as are donations made to each member of your squad.

What if my donors need a receipt?
Every donor who donates online receives a receipt via email that is sufficient for tax purposes. Donors of offline checks will receive an email confirmation when their donation is received by us and confirmed. As a backup, you can contact us and we can generate a duplicate receipt.

Can I split donations between multiple participants?
Sorry, we can’t do that. However, if the participants are on the same squad (team), have your supporter donate to the squad.

What can I do to make sure my offline donations are credited to my account?
Please make sure that every donation is accompanied by a donation form.
