Carson Campos, a standout sophomore athlete at Giles High School, suffered a severe injury during the season's first football scrimmage that has shaken the community. Campos, known for his prowess on the wrestling mat, broke his left femur in three places, putting a halt to his athletic season and possibly his future plans.

The young athlete, who holds records for the Giles Spartan wrestling team, underwent surgery just three weeks ago. Despite the significant setback, Carson's determination remains unshaken as he looks ahead to new challenges. He is currently training for the Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) Carry Forward® Virtual 5K, set to take place on September 27. Using only his upper body strength and confined temporally to a wheelchair, Carson is preparing to complete the race to raise awareness for the cause.

While his immediate athletic future remains uncertain, Carson has big dreams. He has long hoped to attend the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and compete on their wrestling team. However, the hardware now installed in his leg has cast doubts on whether he will be able to follow that path. Still, he remains optimistic and steadfast in his faith. His motto, "God is in control," continues to guide him through this difficult journey.

Carson comes from a proud military family, with both his grandfather and aunt serving as U.S. Marines veterans. His ultimate goal is to commission out of VMI and make a lifelong career in the military. Beyond his athletic and military ambitions, Carson has always been drawn to ministry. As the chaplain of his local FFA club and a member of Hope Church NRV, he aspires to become a pastor and share his faith. In fact, he envisions one day starting his own church after retirement, using his injury and recovery as a powerful testimony to inspire others.

The Giles community has rallied behind Carson, offering prayers and support as he recovers. While his future plans may be uncertain, one thing is clear: Carson's resilience, faith, and commitment to his dreams remain stronger than ever.
